“How often I have gone down by the river in the evening, to stand and look to the far side, where so many I love have gone before me. When the lights begin to come on, I imagine each light is a life, someone I knew, someone I loved, still burning brightly in the distance, waiting for me to be with them once more. Then I say my prayers and head for home, knowing that my ancestors will be waiting for me when it is my turn to cross the wide waters. I walk with lighter steps and a glad heart, knowing that behind me their lights will still be glowing, dancing across the river, all through the night.”
