Please see the email below from our loving church leaders. We will not hold Sunday services on March 15 or March 22. We are investigating alternative methods to bring our community together virtually and will post here when we have more information.
Peace and health be with you.
Out of an abundance of caution, in accordance with the CDC’s recommendation that groups of persons over the age of 60 be no larger than ten, the UMC of Rancho Cordova has decided to suspend worship and choir practice for the next two weeks. As you know, our worship space already makes it difficult for us to gather with the recommended six-foot radius around each person.
For a variety of reasons, we have been hesitant to make this decision, but yesterday the Catholic Diocese of Sacramento suspended all non-essential gatherings for the next two weeks, Alameda and Contra Costa counties have canceled gatherings of over 50 persons, UC Davis and Sac State have suspended in-person gatherings, and many other local and national organizations have canceled large gatherings. Also, there is good epidemiological evidence that we can slow the spread of COVID 19 by halting public gatherings for a short while.
In the next two weeks, we MAY continue the following activities: small group gatherings in the Fellowship Hall (please wait for instructions from your group teachers/leaders), Youth Group on Sunday evening
(wait for information from youth leaders).
The People’s Pantry on 3/17and Be Our Guest Dinner on 3/18 WILL PROCEED AS SCHEDULED.
These ministries are essential to many in our community. We will, of course, exercise our usual hygiene precautions- including the usual handwashing and glove-wearing — but also extending to limiting physical contact (eg: greeting hugs and the like) with fellow volunteers and with our guests.
We ask that any persons who have recently had surgery, who have respiratory conditions, or any sort of immune suppression to please stay home. Your health and safety are paramount!
Pastor Elizabeth will be in the office, as usual, these next two weeks, but will not be participating in large group activities during this time. She will be present at The People’s Pantry, but not the Be Our Guest Dinner.
Note that the church office will remain open during this time and Jacob will keep his usual hours.
In the next couple of days, we will send a prayer and devotional resource.
We are looking into alternative forms of worship together, but we will likely not have that figured out before this Sunday morning
, so please count on receiving a Bible Study and some prayer guidance for this Sunday
via email and stay tuned for what may come next.
This comes with lots of love and an abundance of caution,
Your church leaders,
Elizabeth Brick, Pastor
Fay Kerekes, Lay Leader
Debby Hicks, Administrative Council Chair
